SPOOLED HDTV Episodes: Pre and Post - Production Work
In
order to capture HD footage we will be shooting SPOOLED TV with
a "state-of-the-art" HD camcorder, the Sony
HVR V1U, which is new for 2007. This relatively
small camera is light, easily transportable and captures amazing quality
HD video! Working in HDV can be challenging at times, but the video quality from this relatively inexpensive production camera is simply...breath taking! Believe it or not we are now on our thrid camera...yeah...ouch!

All the episodes are created on a 17” Apple Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio in our "in home" editing studio. Where would we be without Apple...probably fighting and even harder battle editing and encoding on a PC! The editing/encoding technology is really just starting to catch up with the recording equipment. We do everthing ourself, but seek the advice and technical expertise of professionals working in the industry where possible (big shout out to Neal Vigar!).
As for learning the video encoding...many, many, many hours have gone into testing various settings and many, many more hours into researching encoding HDV files to HD (720/1080) resolutions. Testing is still ongoing and subsequently the video picture quality should keep getting better and smaller (crossing fingers)!
